Description

São Tomé and Príncipe formed a National Olympic Committee in 1979 which was given official recognition by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in September 1993 at the IOC Session in Monte Carlo. The country first competed at the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996 and has not missed a Summer Games since. Through 2016, the island nation has competed only in track & field athletics and sprint canoeing at the Olympics. São Tomé and Príncipe has not yet competed in the Olympic Winter Games.

Santomean athletes have not yet won an Olympic medal. Its best Olympic results occurred in 2016 when Buly Triste finished 16th in men’s 1,000 metres Canadian singles canoeing.
