After the sport’s debut in 1992, the Lillehammer Games saw the introduction of two new short track events. Both the men and women gained one individual event (500 m for men, 1000 m for women), making the programmes equal for both sexes. Like all 1994 Olympic skating events, the short track speed skating competitions were held in the town of Hamar.
