The mixed team snowboard cross made its second Olympic appearance as a fast-paced relay-style event, combining one male and one female rider per nation. Medal contenders included France, Italy, the United States, Switzerland, Canada, and Australia, all recent medalists at the previous Olympic Games or World Championships.

After the qualifying round, the semifinals were composed of two duos from France and Australia, and single duos from Switzerland, Great Britain, Italy, and Germany. Advancing to the big final were Great Britain, the Italian duo of Lorenzo Sommariva and Michela Moioli, the French pair of Loan Bozzolo and Léa Casta, and the Australians, Adam Lambert and Josie Baff. The big final saw an exciting finish, with Bankes making a move to propel herself ahead of Casta to eventually take the gold, and Moioli also making a last second move to take the silver in front of the home crowd. This would be Great Britain’s first Olympic gold medal in snowboarding, adding to two bronzes from 2014 and 2018.
