Biography

In 1946, Wilf White purchased Nizefela and the following year they scored their first major win together at Shrewsbury. At Nice in 1949 they made their début in the British team and over the next ten years Wilf White and Nizefella were members of 12 winning Prix des Nations teams. At the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki they won a gold medal in the team event and only lost the individual title after a jumping off. Four years later in Stockholm, White and Nizefela won a bronze medal in the team event and again placed fourth in the individual competition. At both the 1952 and 1956 Olympics, White was the highest placed for the British show jumpers in the individual classification. Wilf White, a Cheshire farmer, was a member of the executive committee of the British Show Jumping Association and in 1958 he was awarded an OBE for his services to the sport. His horse, Nizefela, was buried in Cheshire, and at his own death, Wilf White had his ashes spread over his horse’s gravesite.
