Biography

Czechoslovak cyclist František Rezác competed on both the road and track, winning several national championships in the latter. Rezác won his first national title in 1963 with victory in the team pursuit. That same year he also won the six-day amateur race in Brno, with these results earning him a place on the Olympic team. At the 1964 Tokyo Games he finished fifth in the velodrome in the team pursuit, along with 70th in the road race. One year after the Games he was part of the quartet that won bronze in the team pursuit at the World Track Cycling Championships in San Sebastián.

Rezác continued to have success at home, winning the team pursuit title again in 1967 and 1968, along with the six-day title in 1967 and 1969. In 1968 he returned to the Olympics, where he once again finishing fifth in the team pursuit on the track. He finished his career with a silver in the team road race at the 1970 World Road Cycling Championships in Leicester. Tragically, Rezác was only 36-years-old when he was killed in a road accident in May 1979 in Praha.
