Biography

Mandy, mother of decathlete André Niklaus, finished eighth with the East German foil fencing team at the 1980 Moskva Olympics. Individually she was eliminated in the elimination round after round two. In 1982, she won the first ever East German medal at the Worlds with a bronze. In 1976, 1980, 1982, and 1983, Niklaus won four individual national foil titles. She studied sports at the DHfK Leipzig (Deutsche Hochschule für Körperkultur) and became a sports teacher.
