Jan Boutmy

By the time that his father, Dop, founded the fencing federation of the Netherlands Antilles in 1950, Jan Boutmy had already won several international fencing medals. A sabre specialist, Boutmy amassed 11 medals at the Central American and Caribbean Games between 1946 and 1970: gold in the individual sabre in 1946, 1959, and 1962, gold in the team sabre in 1950, 1959, and 1962, silver in the team sabre in 1946 and 1966, bronze in the individual sabre in 1966, bronze in the team sabre in 1970, and bronze in team épée in 1959. In addition to representing the Netherlands Antilles at the Pan American Games, he also competed in the individual event at the 1964 and 1968 Summer Games, but was eliminated in the first round both times. He later served as an international judge and coach, as well as President of his national Olympians association.
