Foil fencer Ulrich Schreck won two Olympic team medals, at Seoul 1988 (silver) and Barcelona 1992 (gold). Individually, he lost the third place bout 10-8 against the Soviet Aleksandr Romankov in 1988, and finished 18th at Barcelona. At the World Championships he won a team gold in 1987 and three silvers (1985-86, and 1991). In 1991 he won his only individual German title.
After finishing his career, graduated sports teacher Schreck began his training at the Federal Training Centre in Bonn. From 1993-2004 he was boarding school trainer in Germany, and was named chief national trainer for foil in 2004. He was briefly married to his teammate Monika Weber-Koszto.
