Giulio Basletta won two Olympic medals with the Italian épée team. In Amsterdam he competed in three preliminary matches. He won four bouts against Germany (11-4), two against Czechoslovakia (13-2) and two against The Netherlands (10-6). Then, without him, the national team faced France in the final pool, beating them 9-7. Basletta also won one individual Italian title (1922), again in the épée event. He was president of the Italian Fencing Federation from 1940 to 1943. In honor of his sporting achievements, Basletta was awarded a gold medal by the Italian Olympic Committee.
