Born in Egypt in 1930, Freddy Cohen first played basketball in local leagues before emigrating to Israel in 1950. Cohen continued to play the sport and eventually joined Hapoel Tel-Aviv, with him being called up to the Israeli national team soon afterwards. In 1952 he was selected to compete for Israel at the Helsinki Olympics, although he did not play in any matches at the Games. One year later he played in the European Basketball Championships in Moskva, with Israel finishing fifth. Cohen played in another major tournament in 1954 when Israel competed at the FIBA World Championship in Brazil. Cohen himself later emigrated to Brazil after his playing career had finished, living there until his death in June 2021.
