Biography

Fencer Karl Bach joined MTV Neunkirchen in 1936 and, from 1948-65, was the club coach, and from 1965-75, the fencing instructor. He coached fencers of the SV Neunkirchen and TuS 1860 Neunkirchen. As an active fencer, he won two bronze medals at the Saarland Championships in the individual event, and was second in 1952, 1955 and 1956. The Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 was the highlight in his career, although he was eliminated in the first round of both the individual foil and sabre. The foil and sabre teams of Saar were also eliminated in the first rounds. From 1953-55 Bach took part in the World Championships. His wife Ilse also was a national fencer.
