Biography

Ed Richards won back-to-back National titles with the foil in 1962-63. He represented the United States at the 1959, 1963, and 1967 Pan-American Games, winning team foil golds in 1959 and 1963 and a silver in 1967. He later became a fencing coach at Boston University, the US Air Force Academy, and MIT. He coached four Junior World Championship teams and later settled in Las Vegas where he coached at the Fencing Academy of Nevada. Richards was also an accomplished referee who was rated in all three weapons and was honored with the Fencing Officials Commission Distinguished Service Award in 2004. In 2005 he was elected to the USA Fencing Hall of Fame.
