A member of the Grange Ladies Club in Penarth, Wales, gymnast Pat Perks was runner-up in the British Women’s Championship in 1958 and third the following year before eventually capturing the title in 1960 when coached by Cecil Guy. Perks was also a member of the Grange team that Guy coached to success in the British Women’s Team Championship in the three years from 1959. Perks’ team-mates were Gwynedd Lingard and Mary McCarthy. Perks was a member of the British team at the 1960 Roma Olympics but her best finish was 103rd in the horse vault as the British team finished 17th and last overall. In 1963 Perks married Glyn Guy, her coach’s son. She worked in the Freeman cigar factory in Cardiff, and fellow factory workers helped raise money for Perks to pay for clothing she needed to go to the 1960 Olympics.
