Biography

Kip Simons competed in gymnastics at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Simons went to college at The Ohio State University where, in his senior year, he won the Nissen Award as the top collegiate male gymnast. Simons also competed at the 1994 and 1995 World Championships.

In 1997 Simons retired from competition and was named an assistant coach at the University of Michigan. He coached there through 2001, when he took the same position at U Cal Berkeley. In 2005 Simons was named the head gymnastics coach at the Air Force Academy, holding that position into 2019. Simons was named after Kip Keino, the first great Kenyan distance runner. Simons was inducted into the US Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2010.
