Martin Cross of Thames Tradesmen Rowing Club made his Olympic début in 1980 when he won a bronze medal in the coxless fours. Four years later he won a gold in the coxed fours and on his third Olympic appearance in Seoul in 1988 he was a member of the crew which placed fourth in the coxed fours. Cross, a history teacher at Hampton School, also won a gold medal in the coxed fours at the 1986 Commonwealth Games and bronze medals in the coxless fours at the World Championships in 1978 and 1979.
