Biography

Arnold Vitarbo won a gold medal in free pistol at the 1967 Pan American Games and then just missed the medals at the 1968 Olympics, placing fourth. Vitarbo started a military career in the Marines in the 1950s, serving 10 years, but then became a career Air Force non-com officer, and coached the Air Force in shooting into the 1990s. He was US Shooting Coach from 1990-94, and then served as a consultant to USA Shooting. After leaving the Air Force, he coached the University of Utah pistol team starting in 2002.

After 20 years in the military, Vitarbo returned to college and earned a degree from the University of Hawaii, with a degree in Japanese. He later worked as a Volkswagen mechanic, taught Japanese courses at the Oregon Institute of Technology, and began his own successful company making custom gun grips.
