Swimmer Frank Schryver was the first Olympian from Western Australia State. At the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, he placed fourth in the heats of the 200 and 400 metres breaststroke but failed to qualify for the semi-finals. In 1911, Schryver briefly also competed as a cyclist. During the 1930s, he was coach of the Perth A.N.A. Swimming Club.
In World War I, Schryver served as a stretcher bearer with the 2nd Australian Stationary Hospital including some time at Gallipoli. For bravery on the Western Front, he was awarded a Distinguished Conduct Medal and a Military Medal. In 1940 Schryver returned to service in World War II until his demobilisation in 1947.
