Biography

East German backstroke swimmer Frank Baltrusch won the 200 metres silver medal at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. He also finished sixth over 100 metres. In his specialty event, the 200, he also won a silver (1986) and a bronze medal (1982) at the World Championships. At Europeans, he added one more silver (100) in 1987, and four bronze medals.

Domestically, Baltrusch won eight individual and two relay national titles. He later married non-Olympian diver and European Champion Katrin Zipperling and worked, after re-unification, for an insurance company at Magdeburg.
