Biography

German backstroke and freestyle swimmer Anke Scholz won the silver medal with the 4x200 metres freestyle relay squad at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, where she also finished fourth in the 200 metres backstroke, closely behind her team-mate Cathleen Rund. Scholz also finished tenth in the 100 metres backstroke. At the 1994 World Championships she won the 4x100 freestyle relay bronze medal, although she only swam in the heats. At Europeans, she won one gold and one silver.

Scholz was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. In 1994, she won her only German national title, over 200 metres backstroke. She later regularly participated in triathlon events.
