Biography

German freestyle swimmer Alexander Lüderitz won the bronze medal with the 4x100 metres freestyle relay squad at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, although he only swam in the heats. He also competed in the 50 metres freestyle, but was eliminated in the heats. Lüderitz won a silver medal in the 4x100 free relay at the 1997 World Championships, and a gold medal at the Short-Course Worlds. That same year, he also won a relay silver medal at the Europeans.

Lüderitz was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. In both 1997 and 1998, he won the German national 50 metres freestyle title.
