Biography

German freestyle swimmer Karl Schubert was disqualified in the preliminaries of the 4x200 relay at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics due to an early start on an exchange. He also reached the semi-finals in the 100 freestyle. Schubert was German Champion in the 100 freestyle in 1928 and 1931, adding titles in the 200 free in 1930-31. He was also active as an open water swimmer and was German Champion in the 1.75 km open water and the 3 km sea swimming events. After World War II the Schubert family was expelled from Silesia and was assigned an apartment in Pirmasens, where Karl worked as a swimming coach.
