Biography

Yury Baymakov practiced at the Shuvalov swimming school in his hometown St. Petersburg. At the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, he competed in the two breaststroke events. While placing fifth and last in his 200 metres heat, he qualified for the semi-final in the 400 metres with just two swimmers in his heat. However, he trailed the winner of his heat, the eventual gold medallist Walter Bathe from Germany, by just one minute. Consequently, Baymakov did not start in the semi-final.
