Biography

Vladimir Nemshilov was the best Soviet butterfly swimmer at the end of 1960s. During his career, Nemshilov competed in two major international tournaments and won four bronze medals. First Nemshilov competed at the 1968 Olympics, where he was fourth in the 100 butterfly and won bronze as a member of the Soviet medley relay team. At the 1970 European Championships, Nemshilov won bronzes in the 100 and 200 butterfly and in the medley relay. Domestically, Nemshilov won nine Soviet titles – 100 m butterfly (1968-71, 1973-74), 200 m butterfly (1973), and medley relay (1974-75). After finishing his sporting career, Nemshilov worked as a swimming coach in Moscow.

Personal Best: 100 m butterfly – 57.7 (1973); 200 m butterfly – 2:07.6 (1970).
