Biography

Konstantin Petrov from Kazakhstan took up swimming in 1973 and made the Soviet national team in 1983. Petrov first swam internationally at the 1983 European Championships, where he reached the B-final of the 100 fly. He next competed internationally at the 1987 Europeans, where he won gold in the medley relay and was fifth in the 100 butterfly. Petrov’s last international tournament was the 1988 Olympics, where he won bronze in the medley relay and was seventh in his heat of the 100 fly. Domestically, Petrov never won a Soviet title, but won two silvers (1988 50/100 fly) and four bronzes (1982/86 100 fly, 1989 50 fly, 1984 200 IM) at the Soviet championships.

Personal Best: 100 m butterfly – 54.64 (1988); 200 m butterfly – 2:02.96 (1988).
