Biography

Veniamin Tayanovich made his international début at the 1986 Goodwill Games, where he won gold in the 4x200 m freestyle relay. A freestyle swimmer specializing in the 200, Tayanovich had best individual places of fifth in the 200 free at both 1991 World and European Championships, but he was a solid member of various Soviet relay teams between 1987 and 1992, missing only the 1988 Olympics. During his career Tayanovich won the Olympic 4x200 freestyle relay, as well as silver in the 4x100 free relay silver, in 1992, silver in the medley relay and bronze in the 4x100 free relay at the 1991 World Championships, and the European 4x100 and 4x200 freestyle relay titles in 1991, while taking bronze in the 4x100 m free relay in 1987. He also won both freestyle relays at the 1990 Goodwill Games. Domestically, Tayanovich won Soviet 200 freestyle titles in 1989-90 and 4x200 freestyle relay titles in 1985 and 1992.

Personal Best: 100 m freestyle – 50.07 (1991); 200 m freestyle – 1:49.12 (1991); 400 m freestyle – 3:56.56 (1989).
