Biography

Lesley Bush, a 16-year-old student at Princeton High School, was the surprise of the women’s diving events at the Tokyo Olympics. In the platform she went into the lead in the first round and maintained her advantage to the end of the competition to finish 1.35 points ahead of the defending champion, Ingrid Krämer-Engel of East Germany. Lesley Bush then won the platform title at the 1967 Pan American Games but when she defended her Olympic title in Mexico she had a poor first dive and finally finished in 20th place. In all, Miss Bush won five AAU titles. Lesley Bush married Olympic swimmer Charles Hickcox, though they were later divorced.
