Biography

Vazha K’ach’arava started to play volleyball with Burevestnik Tbilisi in 1955 and in 1965 he moved to Dynamo Moskva where he played until 1971. With Dynamo Moskva, K’ach’arava won his only medal – a bronze - from the Soviet Championships in 1965. K’ach’arava played with the Soviet national team from 1963-1967 and he won Olympic gold in 1964, World Cup in 1965, European Championships in 1967 and Universiade in 1963 and 1965. He also won bronzes at the 1966 World Championships and 1963 European Championships. After finishing his sporting career K’ach’arava worked as a volleyball coach, being the head coach of MVTU Moskva from 1973-1981, coach of Soviet national team in 1977, coach of Georgian national junior team from 1976-1977 and the head coach of Georgian national team from 1984-1994.
