Biography

Bob Ctvrtlik played volleyball for the United States at the 1988-96 Olympics, winning a gold medal in 1988, and a bronze medal in 1992. Ctvrtlik played in college first at Cal State Long Beach but later at Pepperdine, where he was Most Valuable Player at the NCAA Tournament in 1985. He played professionally in Europe but also played professional beach volleyball, usually in the 4-man game, although he played some 2-man beach. In 1995 he was named the Best Player in the World.

After his retirement from volleyball, Ctvrtlik settled in his native Southern California and entered the business world. He has served as President of Green Street Properties, LLC in Huntington Beach, California, and is an importer-exporter, via his company, the Ciram Corporation.

Ctvrtlik was named to the IOC Athlete’s Commission in 1996 and in 1999 was made an Athlete’s Member of the IOC, serving until 2007. He was a founding board member of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and served on the IOC Reform Committee.
