Biography

Raffaello Gambino was an Italian water polo and basketball player. He was the formidable goalkeeper of S.S. Lazio Roma and the Italian national team that won bronze medals at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics and the Torino European Championships two years later. With Lazio he won the 1956 Italian national title.

Thanks to an exceptional body (200 centimetres tall) and a big love for the sport he also competed in basketball with good results. During the 1954/55 season he played with Lazio in Second League and was a strong point of the team in white and light-blue. At the end of the year, Lazio obtained promotion to the First League.
