Biography

From 1967 to 1989 Zdeněk Douša played 23 seasons of domestic basketball in Czechoslovakia, most of them with Sparta Praha. Douša was the fourth-leading scorer in the history of the Czechoslovak Basketball League with 8,822 points during his career. Between 1973 and 1975 he spent two seasons playing for RH Pardubice while he was in the military. His league honours included six medals, including a silver in the 1989 season.

Douša played in 246 matches for the Czechoslovakia national team between 1970 and 1980. This included three appearances at the Olympics, playing in München, Montréal, and Moskva, with the team’s best performance coming in Montréal with sixth place. Douša competed at three editions of the World Cup (1970, 1974, 1978), and three European Championships (1975, 1977, 1979), winning bronze at the 1977 edition in Belgium.

In 2001 Douša was included in the Czechoslovakian 20th Century Team and was inducted into the Czechoslovakia Basketball Federation Hall of Fame in 2018. His wife Hana Doušová was also a successful basketball player.
