Biography

Viktor Igumenov is likely the greatest wrestler ever to have not won an Olympic medal. Igumenov wrestled in the 74-78 kg. range throughout his career and won five world championships, all in Greco-roman (1966, 1967, 1969, 1970, and 1971). He also won a European championship at Greco in 1970. In 1968 he competed at the Olympics in the 78 kg. class but was eliminated after the third round, having lost his first round match. At the 1972 Olympics he retired after the second round with an injury.
