Biography

Aristidis Roumpanis is one of those rare Olympians who competed in two sports at the same Olympics. He threw the javelin in athletics and competed for the Greek basketball team at the 1952 Helsinki Games. Roumpanis was a member of Panellinios GS, winning Greek Championships in 1953, 1955, and 1957. He also competed internationally in basketball at the 1951 European Championships and the 1955 Mediterranean Games, where he won a bronze. In athletics he was a Greek record holder in both the javelin and shot put. Aristidis was the brother of Georgios Roumpanis, a bronze medalist in the pole vault at the 1956 Olympics.
