Biography

Gabriele Vianello started his basketball career as a youth with Reyer Venezia, before going on to play in the First League with several clubs. He played for Mazzini Bologna (1957-59), Pallacanestro Varese (1959-62), Robur Varese (in the “B“ League in 1962), Olimpia Milano (1962-67) and finally with his first club, Reyer Venezia (1967-72). Vianello won five Italian titles, with Varese (1961), and Milano (1963, 1965-67). With Milano he also won the European Cup in 1966. He scored a total 5,420 points.

Vianello won the first of 127 international caps against Hungary in 1958. He scored 1,080 points for the national team, and won silver medals at both the 1959 Summer Universiade in Torino, and 1967 Mediterranean Games in Tunis. He appeared in three Olympics (1960, 1964, 1968), three European Championships (1959, 1965, 1967) and one World Championship (1963). Vianello was inducted into the Italian Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011.
