Biography

Henryk Grabowski was one of the top Polish long jumpers of the 1950s. Between 1952-58 he improved the Polish record eight times, taking it from 7.51 to 7.81. His major international accomplishment was winning a bronze medal in the long jump at the 1958 European Championships. At the Polish Championships, he won the long jump in 1952, 1956, and 1958, and he represented Poland 23 times in internationals. In 1957, Grabowski was second on the world list with 7.80, done at Chorzów on 5 October, and he was sixth on the 1958 world list with his Polish record 7.81. He was ranked fourth in the world by Track & Field News in 1957 and 1958, seventh in 1956, and ninth in 1955. During his career he represented a number of clubs, including Górnik Czeladź (1949-50), CWKS Warszawa (1951-52), Górnik Mysłwice (1953), Górnik Zabrze (1954), Górnik Katowice (1955-57), and CKS Czeladź (1958-60).

Personal Best: LJ – 7.81 (1958).
