Leonida Caraiosifoglu was one of the best racewalkers in Romania in the 1960s, winning multiple national titles in both the 20 and 50 km. Caraiosifoglu won six consecutive titles in the 20 km event at the Balkan Games from 1965 to 1970, along with silver in the same event at the 1969 European Athletics Championships. He competed in the 20 km race at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics where he finished ninth. Following his athletics career he became a successful coach and eventually worked for the Romanian Athletics Federation.
