Biography

With the East German 3x5 km relay, cross-country skier Gabi Haupt finished fifth at the 1972 Sapporo Winter Games with Renate Fischer-Köhler and Anni Unger, just one place behind West Germany. Individually, she placed 18th over 10 km and 20th in the 5 km event. In 1970 Haupt won a relay silver at the World Championships, which was the first ever international medal for East German cross-country skiers. In 1971 she won her only individual East German title in the 10 km event. Haupt also won four more national titles with the SC Dynamo Klingenthal relay.
