Biography

Yevgeny Belyayev made his international début at the 1976 Olympic Games where he won silver in the 15 km, bronze in the relay and was 38th in 50 km. At the 1978 World Championships he won two silvers – in the 15 and 50 km – and was fourth in the relay. At the 1980 Olympic Games Belyayev placed fifth at 15 km, sixth at 50 km and 11th over 30 km before winning a gold medal as a member of the Soviet relay team. Domestically he won three Soviet titles – in 1978 and 1981 over 50 km and in 1983 in the relay. Later Belyayev worked in the Baltika beer factory.
