Biography

Born into an affluent ethnic German family in the northern Czech town of Opava, Wolfgang Dorasil studied at the University of Munich. His stay in Munich was not to last long as he became involved in far-right politics and was expelled from university after becoming involved in the Hitlerpusch of 1923. He was to remain a prominent Czech fascist and a member of the Deutsche Nationalsozialistische Arbeiterpartei in Czechoslovakia and later of the Nationalsozialistisches Kraftfahrkorps and the Nazi Party itself. On the ice he played for twenty years for his local Troppauer EV club (Troppau being the German name for Opava) and for the national team between 1928 and 1936. An aggressive defender, he was one of very few players on the Czechoslovakian team who did not play for one of the big Prague clubs. At the end of World War II he was placed in an internment camp. On his release he went to live in Berlin where he died in 1964.
