Biography

From 1977 to 1983 Stanislav Leonovich had a successful figure skating career with partner Marina Pestova. The pair won medals at the World and European championships and were three-time national champions in the Soviet Union. After his skating career Leonovich worked as a coach.

Leonovich and Pestova won the silver medal at the 1978 Soviet championships and finished in seventh place at both the World and European championships in the same year. In 1979 the pair won another silver at the national championships and improved their World and European championship results, finishing in fifth and fourth places, respectively. 1980 saw the pair win their first national title along with bronze at the World and European championships. They also skated at the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics where they just missed out on a medal with a fourth-place finish.

The pair won back-to-back national titles in 1982 and 1983, along with silver at both the World and European championships in 1982. At the 1983 World championships Leonovich and Pestova finished in sixth place and retired from competition later that year.

Leonovich began his coaching career in Moskva with his students including Katya Gordeyeva, Sergey Grinkov, Anna Kondrashova, and Aleksandr Fadeyev. After the break-up of the Soviet Union Leonovich moved to France where he worked in Grenoble, Paris, and Amnéville. Here he coached many French skaters including Sarah Abitbol, Stéphane Bernadis, and Vanessa Gusmeroli.
