Gerhard Seibold

Austrian flatwater canoeist Gerhard Seibold twice participated in the Olympic Games, at Mexico City in 1968 and München in 1972. He won the bronze medal in the kayak doubles over 1,000 metres, partnering Günther Pfaff, in 1968. The pair also won the 1,000 metres gold medal at the 1970 World Championships, a silver in 1971, and a bronze over 500 metres in 1970.

With the kayak fours, Seibold finished seventh at the 1968 Olympics but failed to reach the final in 1972. At the 1966 World Championships, Seibold added a silver with the 1,000 metres kayak fours, and a bronze at the 1967 Europeans over 10,000 metres.

After studying to be a teacher, Seibold taught the subjects of movement and sport as well as geography and economics at the Zell am See high school from 1973-99. During his teaching career he received the title of senior teacher. In 1996 he was awarded the Republic’s Gold Medal of Merit.
