Biography

Chad Carvin was a distance freestyler who won a silver medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics in the 4x200 metre freestyle relay. He also competed in the 400 metre freestyle event, finishing sixth. Carvin swam in college at the University of Arizona. In 1994 he won NCAA titles in the 500 yard freestyle and the 1,650 yard freestyle.

Internationally Carvin had a long, highly decorated career. He took bronze at the 2001 World Championships in the 4x200 free relay. At the short-course World Championships he competed from 1997-2004, winning nine medals, with three gold medals in the 2000 400 free and 4x200 and the 2004 4x200 free relay. He was an 11-time medalist at the Pan Pacific Championships, with one gold in the 1997 4x200 free relay. He won two medals at the 1993 Pan Pacs, three in 1995, four in 1997, and one each in 1999 and 2002.
