Liu Jia

Chinese-born table tennis player Liu Jia represented Austria at six consecutive Olympic Summer Games from 2000-20. Her best result was the fifth place with the Austrian team in 2016. Individually, Liu Jia reached the last 16 in the women’s singles in 2016 and 2020. Her greatest sports moment came at the European Championships in 2005, when she won the singles title. She also won several Austrian national titles.

As table tennis is one of China’s main sports, Liu Jia had problems to qualify for the Chinese national team and subsequently moved to Austria in 1997 and received Austrian citizenship the following year. In 2016, Liu Jia was named flagbearer at the opening ceremony.

At club level, Liu Jia played with LINZ AG Froschberg and won the European Champions League in 2009 and 2013. She moved to Germany to SV DJK Kolbermoor in 2017 and helped them win the German national title in 2019. In 2020, she again won the European Champions League with Linz. From 2025-26 she was vice-president of the Austrian Table Tennis Federation.
