Biography

Iroda Tulyaganova was a tennis player from Uzbekistan who played professionally from 1999 to 2010. Tulyaganova achieved a career-best singles ranking of #16 in the world in June 2002 and a doubles ranking of #28 in the world in September 2002. She had a good start to her career as a junior, winning the girls’ singles title at Wimbledon in 1999 and the girls’ doubles title at the US Open in the same year with the Czech player Dája Bedáňová. On the WTA Tour she won three singles and four doubles titles, all on hard or clay courts. In 2000 Tulyaganova played in the singles at the Sydney Olympics, but lost in straight sets to the Dutch player Kristie Boogert. Two years later she won gold at the Asian Games, after beating Tamarine Tanasugarn in the final, along with bronze in the mixed doubles with Oleg Ogorodov. Tulyaganova won a further medal at the 2006 Asian Games with a bronze in the team event.
