Boris Mayorov and his twin brother Yevgeny began playing hockey in 1956 with Spartak Moskva, Boris playing for them his entire career, winning three Soviet Championships in 1962, 1967 and 1969. Internationally Boris Mayorov was the captain of the Soviet national hockey team from 1962-65 and 1967-68. With them he won two Olympic golds and was World and European Champion six times (1963-68). In addition to those titles he won bronze at the 1961 World Championships and silver at the 1961 European Championships, being the most successful player at the 1961 World Championships with 16 points (7 goals, 9 assists). After his retirement from hockey Mayorov was head coach of Spartak Moskva from 1969-71 and again from 1985-89, winning silver (1970) and bronze medals (1986) at the Soviet Championships. From 1990-93, Mayorov was head coach of Jokerit Helsinki, winning the 1992 Finnish title, and then in 1993-94 was head coach of Tappara Tampere. In 1979, Mayorov began working as an administrative chief of the hockey division with the Soviet Committee for Physical Culture and Sports and since 2001 he has been vice-president of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation. From 1998-2002 he was also the president of the hockey club Spartak Moskva. Since his brother’s death in 1997, Boris Mayorov has worked as a hockey commentator with Russian national television and in 1970 he published a book Я смотрю хоккей (I Watch Hockey). Boris Mayorov was inducted to the IIHF Hall of Fame in 1999.
