Biography

Hubert Neuper won the Four Hills Tournament in 1979-80 and 1980-81, the first Austrian to win the competition twice, and only the second overall Austrian champion. Neuper competed at only one Winter Olympics, winning a silver medal on the large hill at Lake Placid in 1980. Neuper won the overall World Cup title in 1979-80. In 1982 he won another silver in the team event at the World Championships in Oslo, and was second that season in the overall World Cup. His career then went into decline and he retired after the 1983-84 season. Neuper won eight World Cup events, all between 1980-82.

After his competirive career ended, Neuper worked in coaching and sports administration. He organized the 1996 Ski Flying World Championships at Bad Mitterndorf / Tauplitz. From 1997-2000 he was managing director of Austrian Sports Aid. Neuper has also run a ski school in Bad Mitterndorf. He formed Neuper Group GmbH which organizes sporting events, including the annual World Cup ski jumping event at Kulm. In 1996 Neuper was awarded a Silver Medal for Meritorious Service to the Austrian Republic.
