Roger “Rod” Plaxton was a defenseman with the Toronto Graduates when they were sent to the 1928 Winter Olympics to represent of Canada. He was not an original member of the 1927 Allan Cup-winning Toronto Graduates, but he and Bert Plaxton were added after their more talented and more well-known relative, Hugh lobbied to have them added to the team, against coach Conn Smythe’s wishes. He played in three games, scored no goals, and later celebrated Canada’s gold medal success at the tournament. After his hockey career, he worked as a mortgage manager for the Canada Life Assurance Company in Toronto for two and a half decades, and then entered the real estate business, where he remained until his death from a heart attack in 1963.
