Austrian lugers Tobias and his cousin Markus Schiegl were partners in the men’s doubles. They participated in five Olympic Winter Games from 1994 at Lillehammer until Vancouver in 2010 but failed to win a medal. Their best results were unfortunate fourth places in both 1998 and 2006. The cousins did, however, achieve five World Championship titles, and were runners-up three times and third three times (gold: doubles 1996-97, team 1996-97, 1999, silver: doubles 1999, 2003, 2007, bronze: doubles 1995, 2001, 2007).
Additionally, Tobias and Markus won seven bronze medals at European Championships, with the doubles in 1994, 1998, 2000, and 2008 and with the team in 1998, 2000, and 2002. In 1994 and 1998, they also finished runners-up in the overall World Cup. The cousins also won 14 national titles. Tobias later turned to coaching with the Austrian national team. He also became a TV expert and commentator on equestrian sports.
