Biography

Flatwater canoeist Eduard Augustin was a member of the East German K-4 (1,000 metres) at the 1972 München Olympics, which was eliminated in the semi-finals. The crew experienced a surprise elimination by finishing fourth behind Romania, an unheralded Finnish crew, and Hungary. Two years earlier Augustin was on the silver medalist team at the World Championships in Kopenhagen. Augustin won East German titles in K-1 500 in 1964 and 1967, the K-1 1,000 in 1967, and the K-2 500 in 1967, the K-2 1,000 in 1967 and 1968, and the K-4 1,000 with SC Einheit Dresden in 1964. In 1969, he was World Champion in the K-1 1,000.
