Description

The Cook Islands Sports and Olympic Association was first organized and recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on 17 October 1986, at the IOC session in Lausanne. The Cook Islands, a dependency of New Zealand, first competed at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, and has since competed at each Olympic Games. The nation has not yet competed at the Olympic Winter Games and has not won an Olympic medal. Through 2022, the Cook Islands have been represented by 34 Olympians in six sports – track & field athletics, boxing, canoeing, sailing, swimming, and weightlifting.

In 1988 Richard Pittman placed equal ninth in featherweight boxing, although he only won one match, and in 2012 Luisa Peters finished 11th of 14 competitors in the women’s super-heavyweight weightlifting.
