Description

Originally the New Hebrides Condominium, Vanuatu became independent from France and Great Britain in 1980. It had already formed the New Hebrides Territorial Olympic Committee, but this organization was subsumed under the National Olympic Committee of France. The National Olympic Committee of Vanuatu was formed in 1987 and recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on 12 May of the same year at the IOC Session in İstanbul. Vanuatu made its Olympic début at Seoul 1988 and has never missed an edition of the Summer Games since.

Vanuatu has not yet competed at the Olympic Winter Games and its athletes have not yet won a medal. Thus far, none of its athletes has progressed beyond the first round of competition.
